Children learn how to act primarily from their parents. When a parent is abusive at home it instills many character traits. One aspect of this is the child’s desire to mimic the actions of the parent. An abused child often suffers a sense of worthlessness bringing about jealousy of other children. This envy manifests itself in a child wishing to either take from other children or to destroy what other children have.
A bully may be wishing to gain attention due to neglect at home. Inadvertently, bullies may be rewarded when they are punished or reported to their parents by getting attention. Bullies also are rewarded when they begin to lead a group or pack of other people against an individual and feel themselves to be made more popular. Often times people join these packs out of fear if they do not they themselves will become one of the victims. Bullies may seem confident, bold and proud of themselves on the outside. But on the inside, they are insecure, inferior to others and they are just plain cowards!

Sometimes a bully acts alone but it is important to consider how often they work in superior numbers against individuals who are weaker than them.
